Coffee is a plant that is rarely grown in our apartments, despite being an easy-to-grow plant. Its seeds and cuttings are becoming easier to buy.

The coffee tree should not have a constantly wet substrate, but it loves moisture in the air. It is worth sprinkling it with boiled water so that no white (calcareous) stains form on the leaves.

The plant reaches up to a meter in height, and when it blooms, its green leaves harmonize perfectly with red fruits. In principle, coffee seeds can be sown throughout the whole year. However, before we do this, they should be soaked for 24 hours beforehand, necessarily in lukewarm water. After this period, press the seeds into the soil, and cover the pot with paper.

Remember that patience will be our ally when growing coffee, because it sprouts only after about 3-6 weeks after sowing. In addition, coffee grows very slowly and sometimes, for signs of emerging plants to appear, several or several dozen sowing tests are needed.

Care and cultivation of a coffee tree in a pot

We usually water the plant intensively, preferably with boiled water, but not necessarily! Let's remember, however, that each subsequent watering of the plant will take place only when the soil needs it. Although the coffee tree likes moisture, we cannot overflow it. In the autumn-winter season, we gradually reduce the dose of water. It is worth spraying the plant with a sprayer up to 2 times a day throughout the year.

Coffee, due to its origin, feels great in rooms with quite high humidity.

In spring, it is best to put the plant on the windowsill, in the summer - in a place where the tree cannot reach the hot sun rays. In winter, it is worth artificial lighting the tree. Every year, we can transplant the plant into a larger pot, because the coffee has a fairly extensive root system.

Remember! Coffee is very sensitive to low temperatures. Even a slight frost causes it to freeze. Therefore, already in autumn, the plant that we put on the balcony should be placed in the apartment. The best temperature for growing coffee is 23-26 degrees Celsius, in winter the temperature in the apartment should not be lower than 14 degrees Celsius.

The best fertilizer for coffee is a universal fertilizer. We use it at least once a month.
Yellowing of the leaves may be a sign of too small a pot.
Browning of coffee leaves may be a sign of sunburn.
Loss of leaves by a plant can be the reason for too intense watering or sudden temperature changes if, for example, the plant is moved from room to room or when moving house.
