Drinking cider has become a fashion for some time.
In Scandinavia and the British Isles, it is extremely popular, being a significant alternative to beer. An interesting fact is that Poland, the largest apple producer in Europe, exports concentrate from this fruit used for cider production to those countries where its consumption has been high for a long time.

But what is this drink? It is fermented apple juice, produced in a similar way to beer through the method of upper fermentation of apple must. It has a low alcohol content - from 1.2% to 12%, a refreshing, sweet and sour taste and it is best to drink it when it is very chilled. Contrary to popular belief, this drink does not have to be carbonated at all. There are three possibilities - still and sparkling cider, i.e. with natural CO2 and artificially carbonated. Importantly, real cider is made only from apples and yeast, with no added sugar. This drink also produces stronger alcohols, e.g. applejack or calvados which are apple brands. On the other hand, pears can be made from a pear model.

Cider History:
It is produced on all continents, and its history dates back to BC, when Julius Caesar conquered Britain. Even then, the native inhabitants of these lands produced cider. It is said, however, that the oldest ciders come from Spain. Despite this, the history and development of cider industry were doing the best in northwestern Europe, and the colonizers carried the tradition of producing this drink to other regions of the world. An interesting fact is that only in the US the name cider means a non-alcoholic drink. The real one is called "strong cider".

Cider in Poland:

In Poland, cider became popular in 2013 due to lowering the excise tax on this alcohol. This made its production profitable and resulted in the creativity of producers in introducing it to the market. The first mention of this drink in the country on the Vistula comes from the sixteenth century. Nowadays, many manufacturers are trying to give the cider a traditional character by selling in regional stores. Its production is easy, fast and the price is reasonable. The latter factor, combined with the tendency of Poles to try new alcohols, contributed to the increase in its consumption.

Cider production:
It is worth noting what quality cider can be bought in stores. These industrial often contain additional, unnecessary ingredients - preservatives and flavorings. Unlike naturally made cider, they are filtered, sulfurized, pasteurized, often with additional sugar. Unfortunately, currently the law does not regulate the production of cider, which is why dishonest producers will cheat customers with a drink with less apples than the rest of the ingredients. So it is better to stock up on this alcohol in stores with regional products and in specialized wine shops or try to make it yourself. There are plenty of recipes on the internet, and production is not difficult. If you still buy supermarkets, you should read labels and choose ciders without improvers.

How to drink and serve cider:
And how to drink cider? Like beer. It must be chilled, though the natural less - it should be between 10 and 12 degrees. It is served in wide glasses or short-stemmed glasses. This light and refreshing drink can be drunk both solo and with meals. For example, sweet cider will perfectly complement the taste of apple pie, while others blend in with meat, fish or cheese. This alcohol is also irreplaceable during cooking.

Apple pie, as cider was commonly called, is still gaining popularity in Poland, even though a few centuries ago it was considered a poor drink. The trend is promising, although cider industry still needs appropriate legal regulations so that the tradition of this alcohol can develop in the right direction. Will it dethrone beer? This is not known, but cider is certainly a great alternative for him, especially on hot days.
